In Kalaburagi, Karnataka, a 26-year-old Ola Electric customer, Mohammad Nadeem, has been accused of deliberately setting fire to the company's showroom. This drastic action followed a heated argument with staff over issues with his newly-purchased electric vehicle.

The fire, which occurred early on Tuesday morning, destroyed six new Ola electric vehicles and other materials, causing damage estimated in lakhs of rupees. Initially, police suspected a short circuit as the cause of the blaze. However, investigations revealed that Nadeem was responsible for starting the fire.

Customer's complaints and actions

Nadeem had purchased the electric bike 20 days prior and encountered repeated problems, necessitating several repair visits to the showroom. Frustrated by what he perceived as inadequate repairs, Nadeem argued with the staff. In an act of anger, he purchased petrol, poured it over the showroom while it was locked, and ignited it.

Response and aftermath

Residents noticed thick smoke and promptly informed the showroom owner and the police. Emergency services arrived quickly, extinguishing the fire before it could spread to neighbouring showrooms.

Police investigation and arrest

The Chowk police, initially treating the incident as a potential electrical fire, swiftly cracked the case following preliminary investigations. Nadeem has been detained and has confessed to the crime during questioning. He is expected to be formally arrested and presented before the court. Further investigation is ongoing.
