Thambiganipalli (Andhra Pradesh): In a surprising turn of events, a viral video showing an elderly woman tied to a pole in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, has been confirmed to be staged, police said.

The incident occurred in Thambiganipalli village and was orchestrated by the woman's in-laws amid an ongoing land dispute, according to Kuppam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B. Parthasarathi.

The dispute emerged following the death of Munappa, a local man who had two wives, Gangamma and Munemma. Munappa passed away on July 5, and his final rites were conducted on July 13. Tensions reportedly escalated between family members over property matters shortly after his death.

A video that surfaced online showed Gangamma tied to a pole using a pipe, sparking outrage. However, upon investigation prompted by a complaint, police discovered the scene had been deliberately staged.

"When the police arrived at the location, Gangamma was standing near the pole with a pipe wrapped around her, but it wasn't tied. It was confirmed that this was a completely staged incident fabricated by Suresh and his side of the family over property disputes. No one else was responsible," he said.

Police noted that Suresh staged the incident in the presence of Munemma's daughters.

After staging the incident, Suresh falsely accused Manjunath, son of his stepmother Munemma, of tying up his mother, Gangamma.

However, police said they found that Manjunath was not even present when Suresh staged the incident.

Police further said that Gangamma suffered no harm, the video was fabricated, and it was an attempt made by Suresh to defame Manjunath.

Rallabuduguru police station booked a case in this regard. PTI
