The week-long first phase will cover around 10 districts, focusing on roadshows and street meetings. The campaign aims to connect with the grassroots and leverage the region's historical significance

Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President and actor Vijay is set to begin his much-anticipated ‘Meet the People’ statewide tour in the third week of September, kicking off from the politically significant delta region, party sources said on Thursday.
According to party insiders, Tiruchy is being considered as the frontrunner to host the inaugural leg of the campaign. The first phase of the tour is expected to last for about a week and cover nearly 10 districts.

The actor-turned-politician had announced the programme during his party’s second state conference in Madurai last month. At the time, he had promised to take his political outreach directly to the grassroots.
How will the campaign be organised?
TVK leaders stated that the campaign will follow a format similar to the mass contact programmes of mainstream Dravidian parties, centring on roadshows and street-corner meetings.
Why was Tiruchy chosen as the launch venue?
Tiruchy’s selection as the starting point is deliberate. Beyond its electoral importance in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the city and surrounding delta districts hold symbolic significance as the cradle of the Chola empire, an imagery that the party is eager to highlight.
TVK cadre in the region have been tasked with finalising venues for Vijay’s roadshows, public interactions, and short addresses in various towns and villages.
To add grandeur to the campaign, a specially designed luxury bus has been prepared at the party’s Panaiyur headquarters. The bus, equipped with modern amenities for long-distance travel, is awaiting Vijay’s final approval and is expected to become the centrepiece of the tour.
Which other regions will be covered?
Beyond the delta belt, the first phase of the campaign is also likely to extend to Namakkal and Erode, signalling the party’s entry into the Kongu region, which TVK has long set its sights on.
Following the delta leg, TVK has planned a large public conference in western Tamil Nadu. Party functionaries said the event will mark the formal launch of the organisation’s full-scale election campaign.
It is expected to showcase TVK’s organisational capacity and highlight its readiness for the 2026 state Assembly elections.
