This conference, following the party's launch last year, is seen as a key event ahead of Tamil Nadu's Assembly polls

Madurai: Actor‑politician Vijay is set to lead his party’s second state conference in Madurai on Thursday, an event that comes just months before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The conference, projected as a major show of strength, is being organised on a vast 500‑acre site along the Madurai–Thoothukudi highway in Kariyapatti taluk.
Organisers have said they expect nearly 4 lakh attendees at the gathering, underlining the scale of the event. The conference will officially begin at 3:30 pm and conclude by 7:30 pm.
The maiden state conference of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was held in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, last year. That meeting effectively marked the formal launch of Vijay’s political career. This time, the party has chosen Parapathi in Madurai for its second state conference.
The superstar reached Madurai late on Wednesday (20 August). Crowds of supporters and loyal fans gathered in large numbers near the venue to welcome him ahead of the conference.
What is the political context?
Vijay has consistently been outspoken against both the DMK government in Tamil Nadu and the BJP at the Centre. With this background, political observers are keenly watching what message he plans to deliver to his cadres and party members during the meet.
Alongside his political activities, Vijay is currently working on his upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’, which is widely speculated to be his farewell project before he fully commits to political life.
