New Delhi: The next-generation Vande Bharat sleeper train is ready for its grand launch, offering a host of luxury and high-tech features designed to make long-distance travel faster, safer, and more comfortable than ever. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday showcased the train to the media at New Delhi Railway Station, calling it a “Middle & low-income families’ next-generation ride.”

The 16-coach Vande Bharat sleeper will soon run on the Kolkata-Guwahati route, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to flag it off. One train will remain in Guwahati while the other will be stationed in Kolkata for the launch ceremony.

Passengers can expect enhanced comfort and convenience throughout the journey, including:

  • Spacious tray holders and adjustable window shades
  • Reading lights, hangers, and magazine holders
  • Deep wash basins designed to prevent water splashing
  • Braille-labelled seats for visually impaired travellers
  • Each berth is ergonomically designed with improved cushioning, and automatic doors with vestibules ensure smooth movement between coaches. Advanced suspension and noise reduction technology promise a quiet and stable ride.

The train recently completed its final high-speed trial under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Officials confirmed that it underwent rigorous technical evaluations, including ride stability, braking performance, oscillation, vibration, and other critical safety parameters.

How much you’ll pay for 3 AC, 2 AC, and 1 AC on the Vande Bharat sleeper

Despite its premium features, the fares are designed to be middle-class friendly. Railway Minister Vaishnaw said:

“In the Vande Bharat sleeper, the 3 AC fare will be around Rs 2,300, 2 AC around Rs 3,000, and 1 AC around Rs 3,600, including food. The fares have been designed keeping the middle class in mind."

The train has 11 coaches of 3 AC, four coaches of 2 AC, and one 1 AC coach, providing a total of 823 berths – 611 in 3 AC, 188 in 2 AC, and 24 in 1 AC.
