The Vande Bharat trains, which have revolutionized India's railway sector, have now been recognized as the most punctual train service in the country. The observation is based on a report prepared using data from the railway ticketing platform, RailYatri. The study also highlights that trains in Kerala have shown a decline in punctuality.
According to RailYatri’s records, the punctuality of passenger trains in the country has improved overall. In 2024, the delay rate for passenger trains was reduced by 8%. The average delay time decreased from 20 minutes to 18 minutes. States like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Punjab reported significant improvements in train punctuality.
On the other hand, states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala witnessed a drop in punctuality compared to the previous year. Among the trains, the Humsafar Express ranked as the least punctual train service in the country. Despite showing some improvement from the previous year, these trains still record an average delay of 55 minutes.
Trains like Duronto Express, Shatabdi Express, and Vande Bharat have demonstrated notable improvement in punctuality this year. While the overall average declined compared to 2023, the study confirms that Vande Bharat remains the most punctual train service in the country.
