Devotees will celebrate the occasion on Ashwin Purnima, reflecting on his teachings of dharma and devotion.

Valmiki Jayanti 2025 will be observed on Tuesday, October 7, marking the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, revered as the Adi Kavi — the first poet of Sanskrit literature and the author of the epic Ramayana.
The day is celebrated annually on Ashwin Purnima, as per the Hindu lunar calendar, when devotees pay tribute to the sage for his literary brilliance and spiritual teachings that shaped India’s cultural heritage.
According to the Panchang, the Purnima Tithi begins at 12.23 pm on October 6, 2025, and ends at 9.16 am on October 7, 2025, guiding devotees on the ideal time to perform prayers and rituals.
Maharishi Valmiki is remembered not only for composing the 24,000-verse Ramayana spread across seven Kandas, but also for his life of transformation—from a sage who renounced violence to an enlightened poet-saint.
As per the epic, Valmiki is believed to have lived during the time of Lord Rama. His hermitage became a place of refuge for Devi Sita after her banishment, where he also taught the Ramayana to her twin sons, Lava and Kusha.
Across India, temples and cultural centers will hold special prayers, recitations of the Ramayana, and community events celebrating Valmiki’s enduring message of righteousness and wisdom.
