Lucknow: Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, dust storms, lightning strikes and strong winds, have caused widespread devastation across Uttar Pradesh over the past 24 hours. According to official and media reports, at least 43 people have been killed across the state.

Bhadohi reports highest casualties

Bhadohi district has reported the highest number of casualties, while Budaun is also among the worst affected regions. Separate reports suggest at least 11 deaths in Bhadohi and Budaun alone, while the overall toll across multiple districts is significantly higher.

The sudden storms disrupted normal life across several parts of the state, damaging homes, uprooting trees and causing widespread power outages. Electricity infrastructure was severely affected, with fallen poles and snapped lines leading to prolonged disruptions in many areas.

Authorities have reported extensive crop damage in rural areas due to hailstorms and heavy rain. The destruction has raised concerns for farmers, as standing crops in multiple districts have been affected.

Rescue operations underway

Emergency response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been deployed in the affected districts. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams searching for people trapped under debris and clearing blocked roads.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure immediate relief and compensation for affected families. District administrations have also been instructed to prioritise restoration of electricity supply and communication networks, while monitoring continues in storm-hit regions.
