Uttar Pradesh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday released a red nowcast warning for several districts in Uttar Pradesh. The department has cautioned that very heavy rainfall, measuring more than 15 mm per hour, is likely to occur along with thunderstorms.

Which areas are affected?

Districts under the red nowcast warning, valid up to 09:00 hrs IST of today include Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Shrawasti, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Balrampur, Gonda, Amethi, and Sitapur.

According to the IMD, a Red Nowcast Warning signals “Heavy spells (>15 mm/hr) accompanied with thunderstorm”.

In comparison, an Orange Nowcast Warning alerts people about “Moderate spells (5–15 mm/hr) accompanied with thunderstorms”.

Forecast for Delhi

The IMD has also predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall in Delhi until 2 September. A thunderstorm with rain is expected on 3 September, followed by rain or thundershowers on 4 and 5 September.

Relief camps have already been set up in areas such as Mayur Vihar to help residents cope with the expected weather conditions.
