Uttar Pradesh: In a disturbing case from Nagla Nathlu village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, a three-year-old boy named Anshu died on Friday after exhibiting classic rabies symptoms, including hydrophobia, weeks after being bitten by a dog. His death has raised alarm as local health officials discovered that ten other children, all bitten by the same rabid dog, had not received any medical treatment.

The boy's family reported unusual symptoms in the days leading up to his death. His case prompted an immediate response from district health authorities, who sent a medical team to the village. The team found that the other bite victims, aged between two and twelve, had similarly not sought any medical attention.

Aligarh's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Neeraj Tyagi, stated that while the boy’s death is being treated seriously, rabies as the cause could not be medically confirmed since the child was not tested before death and the dog was killed without examination. Nonetheless, the district has launched a preventive campaign, including distribution of anti-rabies vaccines.

Dr Tyagi reassured that government hospitals have adequate vaccine supplies and urged the public to seek immediate medical attention after any animal bite. The incident has exposed serious gaps in awareness and access to post-bite care in rural areas.
