The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a fresh set of strict directives ahead of Bakrid, with authorities instructed to ensure tighter monitoring of animal slaughter, meat sales, and public gatherings during the festival.

During a high-level law and order review meeting conducted through video conference, Yogi Adityanath directed officials to prevent any public animal slaughter and ensure that sacrifices are carried out only at designated and licensed slaughterhouses.

The Chief Minister warned that strict action would be taken against those violating rules or carrying out the slaughter of prohibited animals.

District administrations across the state have been asked to enforce the directives strictly and maintain law and order during the festival period.

The state government also said no new traditions or practices would be permitted during Bakrid celebrations.

Eid prayers, according to the directives, should be held only at mosques, while offering prayers by blocking roads or public spaces will not be allowed under any circumstances.

The administration has additionally ordered proper disposal of waste generated after animal sacrifice and barred the open sale of meat in public areas.

Officials were instructed to take strict action against illegal slaughterhouses, while even licensed facilities will be required to operate within prescribed limits, including restrictions on meat storage.

Authorities have also been directed to ensure adequate security arrangements and an uninterrupted electricity supply during the festival.

Special monitoring has been ordered in sensitive areas that have witnessed communal tensions in the past, including Aligarh, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Rampur, and Sambhal.

Officials have been asked to remain on alert and take immediate action in the event of any law-and-order situation.
