Bhopal: The husband of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma, who has been arrested in connection with her death, was brought to Bhopal in the early hours of Saturday as police prepare to seek custodial remand for further interrogation.

Police officials said Samarth Singh, the lawyer son of former judge and Bhopal Consumer Court chairperson Giribala Singh, was taken to Katara Hills police station around 2am under tight security.

He is expected to be produced before a court later today, with investigators set to request police remand for questioning, Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar confirmed.

Samarth Singh was arrested after surrendering in Jabalpur district court, following more than a week on the run after an FIR was lodged against him and his mother. He had also withdrawn an anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court prior to his surrender.

The case relates to the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on 12 May.

Her family has alleged dowry harassment, while her in-laws have claimed she struggled with drug addiction, presenting conflicting accounts that remain under investigation.

Police said Singh was taken into custody outside the court premises after surrendering and was later transported to Bhopal along with members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Misrod Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajnish Kashyap.

Authorities also confirmed that investigations will continue locally for now, despite a recommendation for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, until formal approval for transfer is granted.

Officials added that statements from key witnesses, including Giribala Singh, are yet to be recorded after she reportedly failed to appear for questioning despite multiple notices.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice on petitions seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to her, with proceedings scheduled for further hearing later this month.
