Rishikesh: The ashes of Twisha Sharma, the victim in the high-profile Bhopal dowry death case, were immersed in the Ganga river at Rishikesh on Friday, with her family reiterating their demand for justice.

Twisha’s family arrived at Triveni Ghat to perform the ‘Asthi Pravah’ ritual, saying the 33-year-old had shared a deep emotional connection with Rishikesh and the Ganga.

Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the family chose the location in keeping with her wishes and memories associated with the place.

“Twisha had a deep attachment to Rishikesh and to Maa Ganga. She would often sit for hours on the banks of the river. This place held a very special significance for her, and that is why we decided to immerse her ashes here,” he said.

He added that the family’s legal battle was only beginning and expressed hope that the judiciary and investigating agencies would ensure justice in the case.

“This is a massive struggle involving very powerful people. Our fight will continue until justice is served,” he said.

Twisha’s cousin, Ashish Sharma, alleged that before her death she had informed family members that she was facing severe emotional and financial distress.

He claimed the circumstances surrounding her death were “highly suspicious” and alleged that the family faced obstacles in the initial stages of the investigation.

Ashish said the family later approached the High Court seeking suo motu intervention, following which a team from Delhi conducted an investigation at the site.

He also noted that growing public attention and media coverage led the Madhya Pradesh government to seek a CBI inquiry, while the Supreme Court also took suo motu cognisance of the matter.

“We hope this case sets a precedent, even if the judicial process takes time,” he said.

Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, said the family remained hopeful of justice.

“The CBI is involved and the High Court has taken the right decision. We are hopeful,” he said.
