Tiruchirappalli: A TVK election rally led by chief Vijay on Thursday turned chaotic as crowds surged, two women fainted due to intense heat, and a police constable was injured when a car driven by a party leader accidentally hit him.
During the rally near the MGR statue, one woman was revived on-site, while the other was admitted to a hospital in stable condition. The injured police constable, Satish, was immediately taken to a hospital by TVK party members.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna later visited the hospital to check on his condition.
Despite the chaos, Vijay addressed supporters after filing his nomination from Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency, using the platform to revisit the Karur stampede of September 27, 2025, which claimed 41 lives and left many injured.
“I, who have come to ask justice for you, also want justice,” he said, alleging a joint conspiracy behind the tragedy. He also claimed that a conspiracy surrounded the release of his latest film Jana Nayagan.
Vijay criticized the state and central governments for the ongoing LPG cylinder shortage, saying it has hurt small businesses, tea shops, and hotels.
“Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin flies to Delhi for family issues, but has he rushed there to solve the LPG crisis?” he asked, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Vijay urged voters not to trust DMK or BJP, accusing both of being aligned, and asked for support for the TVK. He slammed the DMK for unfulfilled promises from the 2021 elections, including MSP for sugarcane farmers, extra ration, and plans to abolish NEET.
“As I have been saying, the poll battle is only between TVK and DMK. Our primary focus will be education, ration, health, drinking water, amenities including improving amenities in government-run schools, and transportation,” he said, outlining TVK’s poll pledges such as six free LPG cylinders for women and gifts for young brides.
