Chennai: The actor Vijay-led TVK denied any scope for an alliance with the AIADMK-led NDA in Tamil Nadu on Saturday and dismissed as media speculation the likelihood of an electoral pact.

BJP state chief Nainar Nagenthran, however, declined to provide a direct reply to a question from reporters on whether talks for an alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam were on.

"You are worried about the alliance, and I am concerned about the people's issues, especially the failure of law and order in the state and lack of safety for women," Nagenthran told reporters here.

Dismissing as "rumours" the negotiations for an alliance with NDA, TVK's Joint General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar said that the virtual meeting with the party's district secretaries held on March 13 was to assess the strengths and alliance prospects.

"There's no scope for an alliance with the NDA. We have already made it clear that the BJP is our ideological enemy," Nirmal Kumar told PTI and sought to know if the "rumours" were true, and whether the BJP would accept Vijay as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

Meanwhile, TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna alleged on Friday that Tamil Nadu has become an "unsafe state" for women and children and the ruling DMK has no concern for its people following a series of incidents.

Arjuna, who is General Secretary of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, referred to the latest incident in Vilathikulam in which a 17-year-old girl was found allegedly murdered in Tuticorin.

In a social media post on Friday, he took potshots at the DMK government over similar incidents that occurred in the state and added that TN was turning into an "unsafe state".

"DMK government has no concern for its people. Especially, it has not a shred of concern about the safety of women and children and has no responsibility in any essential matters like law and order," Arjuna alleged.

"When is the Chief Minister (M K Stalin) going to realise the violence, sexual assaults, and state-of-fear happening here? The people will soon answer to the DMK rule that failed to prevent crimes," he added.
