US President Donald Trump showered praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit in France, calling the Indian leader 'calm, cool and a total killer' in remarks that quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the gathering.

Speaking during a working lunch session on Wednesday, Trump contrasted his own personality with that of the Indian Prime Minister.

'Unlike PM Modi, who’s calm, cool and a total killer, I am not. Look at him,' Trump said, drawing attention from leaders and delegates present at the summit.

The comment came just hours before Trump and Modi were scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

The talks mark their first face-to-face interaction in 16 months and are being closely watched amid evolving geopolitical and economic developments.

The two leaders had already shared a brief interaction during the traditional G7 family photograph session on Tuesday, where they were seen standing next to each other before the summit’s outreach discussions.

Trump’s praise added a personal dimension to the diplomatic engagement between Washington and New Delhi, reflecting the rapport the two leaders have displayed during previous meetings.

The remarks also generated considerable attention on social media, with supporters and commentators interpreting them as a sign of continued warmth in India-US ties.

The bilateral meeting is expected to focus on trade, strategic cooperation, technology partnerships, defence collaboration and regional security issues. Officials from both sides have indicated that strengthening economic and geopolitical coordination remains a priority.

The G7 Summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, has brought together leaders of major economies and invited partner nations to discuss global challenges ranging from security and trade to climate and emerging technologies.

While policy discussions dominate the agenda, Trump’s unexpected praise for Modi emerged as one of the summit’s headline-grabbing moments.
