Actress Trisha Krishnan’s appearance alongside Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay at the Independence Day celebrations in Chennai has drawn attention online, amid continuing speculation about Vijay’s alleged links with an actress. 

Vijay hoisted the national flag at Fort St George in Chennai as Tamil Nadu marked the 80th Independence Day. The ceremony was his first Independence Day flag-hoisting as Chief Minister.

Trisha was seated in the front row, alongside Vijay’s parents S A Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar. Her mother, Uma Krishnan, was also present.

Videos from the event have since circulated widely on social media. One clip shows Trisha saluting Vijay as he passed the attendees in a jeep during the official proceedings. Vijay was also seen greeting people with folded hands.

Trisha wore a traditional gold-toned saree with minimal jewellery and a floral gajra.

Divorce petition had mentioned alleged affair

The renewed online discussion comes days after Vijay’s wife Sankgeetha Sornalingam withdrew a divorce petition filed before the Chengalpattu Family Court.

Sankgeetha had filed the petition in February 2026 after more than two decades of marriage. According to the petition, she alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor and cited emotional distress, alleged neglect, mental cruelty and other grounds for seeking divorce.

The petition did not publicly name the actress. Trisha’s name was subsequently linked to the allegations amid existing online speculation about her relationship with Vijay.

The court allowed Sankgeetha to withdraw the petition after she appeared through video conference. The order did not state why she chose to withdraw the case, while leaving open the option of filing a fresh petition.

Trisha’s social media posts add to speculation 

Around the same period, Trisha shared Instagram Stories about drama, finding peace and feeling overwhelmed by a life one had once wished for. She did not identify anyone or indicate what the posts referred to.

Neither Trisha nor Vijay has publicly confirmed the relationship claims or addressed the speculation linking them.

At the Independence Day ceremony, Vijay spoke about his government’s aim of achieving a corruption-free Tamil Nadu and urged people and officials to develop zero tolerance towards corruption.
