One thousand three hundred and eighty-three US flags came together in New Jersey on Saturday, not merely as a patriotic display, but as a carefully choreographed symbol of two nations and the community that connects them.

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA NY-NJ-CT-NE), in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York and corporate supporter Zoho Corporation, has set a new Guinness World Records title for the ‘Largest Flagpole Number’.

The record-breaking installation was unveiled on August 15 at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany, New Jersey, where 1,383 US flags mounted on flagpoles were arranged to form the number ‘250’.

The giant formation was surrounded by Indian tricolors, creating a visual tribute to the shared history and growing relationship between India and the United States.

The display carried a distinct dual significance. It commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day, celebrated as India@80, while also looking ahead to the United States’ upcoming Semiquincentennial, or America@250.

Following detailed on-site verification, an official Guinness World Records Adjudicator presented the framed certificate to FIA leaders and dignitaries, formally marking the achievement.

FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya described the record as a reflection of the commitment and collective effort of the Indian-American community.

'Achieving this Guinness World Record is a testament to our community’s unwavering dedication and deep pride in our heritage,’ Vaidya said, adding that the milestone demonstrated what could be achieved when people came together around a shared vision.

Ambassador Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, placed the achievement in the broader context of India-US relations, calling the installation a vibrant expression of the enduring strategic friendship between the two countries and a tribute to the Indian-American diaspora.

Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai also underlined the common democratic values shared by India and the United States.

Addressing the gathering, he said both countries shared a fundamental goal of determining their own future and building their own path.

New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dr Dale G Caldwell praised the civic spirit behind the initiative and recognised the scale of volunteer participation that went into creating the record-setting installation.

He also encouraged continued volunteerism through community and cultural initiatives.

FIA President Sreekant Akkapalli said the achievement belonged to the volunteers, partners and supporters who worked behind the scenes to bring the project to fruition.

The event also brought together prominent guests, including Zoho Corporation Chief Evangelist Raju Vegesna and US Congresswoman Analilia Mejia. Speakers highlighted the expanding role of Indian-Americans in technology, public service and local commerce.

For FIA, the Guinness recognition also represents another chapter in a longer organisational journey.

Immediate Past President Saurin Parikh said the record reflected years of groundwork, teamwork and continuity, while Vaidya recalled FIA’s history of pursuing ambitious Guinness World Records attempts.

The organisation, founded in 1970, is one of the largest non-profit grassroots umbrella organisations in the United States and represents the Indian-American community across eight northeastern states.

Its work spans cultural heritage, civic advocacy and efforts to strengthen US-India relations, including the annual NYC India Day Parade.

The latest record adds another landmark to that legacy. As the massive flag installation drew public attention in Parsippany, the event concluded with cultural performances and an opportunity for visitors to view the record-setting display.

For the Indian-American community, the 1,383-flag formation was more than a Guinness achievement. It became a public expression of heritage, citizenship, civic participation, and the enduring ties between India and the United States.
