Congress MP Manish Tewari warns of safety risks on the Chandigarh–Delhi rail line, describing sections where trains “bounce like a Table Tennis ball.”

Chandigarh: Congress leader and three-term MP Manish Tewari has raised safety concerns over the Chandigarh-Delhi rail line, describing sections of the track as “very dangerous” due to excessive swaying of trains.
He urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to address the issue, saying it poses a risk to passengers.

In a post on X, Tewari wrote: “Dear @AshwiniVaishnaw ji... The up line and Downline from Chandigarh to Delhi is very dangerous in certain places. The train bounces like a Table Tennis ball in certain places and wobbles like crazy on its normal pace also. The swaying movement is so bad that tea or coffee swirl as if there is a storm in the tea or coffee cup.”
He also added that he had raised the concern 12 months ago along with Congress MP Dr. Amar Singh, saying, “My Colleague @DrAmarSinghINC & I had flagged it for your attention 12 months back also but no improvement. Please get the situation remedied. It does not appear to be safe. I again experienced it today morning on 12006 Delhi - Kalka Shatabdi today morning.”

Tewari, who represents Chandigarh, has also been pressing the Centre for improved rail connectivity, including more train stoppages and additional services from Chandigarh and SAS Nagar (Mohali), as well as addressing cost and time overruns in the ongoing redevelopment of Chandigarh railway station.
He also met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ahead of the Lok Sabha session, urging a review of cost and time overruns in the ongoing redevelopment of Chandigarh railway station. Tewari questioned whether the Centre had taken note of his repeated requests for enhanced rail connectivity from Chandigarh and SAS Nagar (Mohali), including additional stoppages for superfast trains on the Katra and Amritsar routes, as well as improved links to Rajasthan.
