Stuck in a traffic jam or spotted an accident? Kolkata Traffic Police has urged citizens to dial 1073 to report traffic-related issues. Complaints will be routed directly to the concerned traffic guard or officer for faster on-ground action.

Kolkata, August 5: Stuck in a traffic jam, struggling to find parking, or spotted a road accident?
Kolkata Traffic Police has asked citizens to use its 'One-Stop Traffic Helpline' 1073 for all traffic-related complaints and emergencies, saying the dedicated number is designed to ensure quicker police response across the city.
Officials said residents can dial 1073 from anywhere in Kolkata to report traffic congestion, faulty traffic signals, illegal parking, road blockades, waterlogging, stranded vehicles causing disruptions, road accidents or any other traffic-related issue.
Complaints received through the helpline will be immediately forwarded to the concerned traffic guard or officer for prompt action.
'Kolkata Traffic Police is always committed to ensuring safe, smooth and hassle-free travel for citizens,' a senior traffic department official, who did not wish to be named, said.
According to police, the helpline is intended to improve coordination between the public and traffic authorities by allowing citizens to report incidents as soon as they occur.
Officials said early information will help police reach affected locations faster, restore traffic movement more quickly and ensure smoother passage for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire engines.
Traffic Police said the service will be particularly useful during peak travel periods, including festivals such as Durga Puja, Christmas and New Year, when traffic volume in Kolkata rises sharply.
However, citizens can also use the helpline during office hours, school timings, weekends or whenever urgent traffic assistance is required.
Police said the initiative is aimed not only at registering complaints but also at strengthening public participation in traffic management through faster communication and technology-enabled response.
Citizens have been urged to report traffic-related issues or accidents immediately by calling 1073.
