Airport authorities implemented manual check-in and extra staff to mitigate the impact

Mumbai: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, India’s second-busiest airport, experienced significant disruption on August 9, 2025, caused by a third-party data network outage. The outage affected the airline check-in systems, leading to delays in flight departures and considerable inconvenience for travellers.
The disruption impacted several airlines, with Air India, one of the country’s largest carriers, issuing an advisory to inform passengers about the delays and advise checking flight statuses before arriving at the airport. Additionally, passengers were urged to arrive earlier than usual to allow for extended security and check-in times.
Airport authorities quickly responded by activating contingency protocols, including shifting to manual check-in processes and deploying extra staff to manage passenger flow and reduce wait times. Although the technical issue has been resolved, airlines have cautioned that residual delays might continue as operations gradually return to normal.
Air India expressed regret over the inconvenience and thanked passengers for their understanding during this unforeseen disruption.
