Sunita Kejriwal celebrated the court verdict acquitting her husband and Manish Sisodia, posting a short but powerful message on social media

New delhi: Following the acquittal of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case, Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal reacted on X (formerly Twitter) with a brief celebratory message.
Her post read: “Truth always prevails... No matter how powerful one becomes, one cannot rise above Shiv Shakti. Truth always prevails.”

The comment came shortly after the Rouse Avenue Court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish criminal conspiracy charges in the long-running case investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The verdict has effectively closed one of the most closely watched corruption cases linked to Delhi’s now-scrapped excise policy.
Court’s reasoning behind the acquittal
The court ruled that the prosecution failed to present sufficient material evidence to sustain criminal conspiracy charges against the accused.
While discharging Sisodia, the Rouse Avenue Court observed that the prosecution’s narrative did not withstand judicial scrutiny. After reviewing witness statements and documentary records, the judge found no material indicating criminal intent.
The court further stated that the evidence reflected standard administrative consultation processes involved in policy formulation rather than proof of illegal activity.
In a critical observation, the court said serious criminal allegations must be supported by concrete material evidence. The judgment noted that public confidence in judicial and administrative institutions can be harmed if prosecution claims are based only on assertions.
The court also remarked that the prosecution theory of an overarching conspiracy suffered from internal contradictions and lacked substantive proof under legal standards.
Background of the case
The Delhi excise policy case was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which alleged irregularities linked to a reported ₹100 crore payment connected to a so-called “south lobby”.
The case involved 23 accused persons and multiple chargesheets filed since 2022. The verdict effectively ends one of the most high-profile corruption trials linked to Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy. The judgment is seen as a major legal development, as the court held that the prosecution failed to establish criminal conspiracy or intent, leading to the discharge of the accused.
