This move comes a day after Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, released a controversial AI recreation of former Chief Minister CN Annadurai criticising his own DMK party

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has unveiled an AI-generated video featuring the iconic social reformer Periyar on his birthday today. This move comes a day after Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, released a controversial AI recreation of former Chief Minister CN Annadurai criticising his own DMK party and endorsing Vijay.
The AI video of Annadurai triggered strong reactions from the ruling DMK, with party spokesperson A Saravanan condemning it as a “deepfake” and a cheap political stunt. Saravanan emphasised that while AI can be used for social good, its misuse in politics undermines democratic values. He also dismissed rumours of any secret alliance between DMK and BJP, which Vijay has repeatedly claimed.
By releasing the AI video of Periyar, Stalin appears to be reclaiming the narrative, invoking the legacy of the Tamil social reformer known for fighting caste and racial discrimination, to strengthen his party’s position and counter TVK’s challenge. The digital political battle signals a new era where AI technology is increasingly becoming a tool in election campaigns and political messaging in Tamil Nadu.
