New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday clarified that it would not interfere with the current KEAM 2024 results but would examine the broader legal question on whether the standardisation formula for board marks can be altered after the exam has taken place.

A bench of Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice A.S. Chandurkar was hearing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by a group of students challenging the Kerala High Court’s decision that had quashed the original KEAM results. The High Court had ruled that the standardisation method, which was modified partway through the process, contradicted the original prospectus. Following that ruling, the Kerala government issued revised results using the earlier formula as specified before the change.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench made it clear that it would not disturb the ongoing selection and admission processes. Justice Narasimha remarked,

"Existing selection processes, appointment processes, we are not going to interfere. Because the country is plagued with this problem of uncertainty. Every examination, every appointment gets challenged. So what we will do is, on principle, if they have a problem, we will consider it. But so far as the facts are concerned, we will not interfere."

The Court has sought a response from the Kerala government on whether it plans to appeal the High Court ruling. The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 16.

Advocate C.K. Sasi, appearing for the state, was asked to obtain instructions regarding the government’s position on the issue.
