Mumbai: Two staff members working at Saif Ali Khan's home have confirmed that Shariful Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, was the individual who attacked the Bollywood star in January. Fakir, whose full name is Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, was arrested in late January and is currently in judicial custody.

Identification parade conducted

On Wednesday, Mumbai police held an Identification Parade (IP) at Arthur Road Jail. During the parade, Eliyamma Phillip (56), a staff member at Khan's residence, and housemaid Junu identified Shariful as the assailant. The identification parade took place in front of a tehsildar and five panchas (witnesses).

Eliyamma Phillip, a key witness in the case, has also claimed that she was attacked by Fakir. According to police sources, she is the primary witness in this matter. Following the attack, police had confirmed that a facial recognition test matched the suspect’s image to the person seen in CCTV footage from the scene at the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra, where Khan lives.

The attack

On January 16, Shariful Fakir allegedly broke into Khan's 12th-floor apartment in the early hours of the morning. He reportedly stabbed the actor six times before fleeing the scene. Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and underwent two surgeries. After several days of medical treatment, he was discharged on January 21.

Shariful Fakir was apprehended by the police three days later in neighbouring Thane. His arrest followed a series of investigations and facial recognition confirmation linking him to the crime scene.
