Rebel MP Saayoni Ghosh was met with angry protests and ‘gaddar’ slogans while visiting the family of the 12-year-old Baruipur rape-murder victim, days after switching political allegiance.

Kolkata: Rebel MP Saayoni Ghosh faced protests and sloganeering when she visited the family of the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in West Bengal's Baruipur on Tuesday.
Videos shared on social media showed a section of the crowd raising slogans of 'Gaddar' and 'Beimaan' as Ghosh arrived, with some people also shouting, 'How much were you sold for?' Check the video below:
The protests appeared to be directed at her recent exit from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), with demonstrators accusing her of betraying the party.
Ghosh is among 19 former TMC MPs who recently joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a move that has sparked political controversy across the state.
Police initially prevented the NCPI delegation from entering the locality before later allowing them access under tight security arrangements.
Despite the hostile reception, Ghosh said the focus should remain on ensuring justice for the victim.
'Everyone wants the maximum punishment. What matters is how quickly justice is delivered after an incident like this,' she said.
Calling the crime heartbreaking, the MP added, 'It feels as if this has happened to my own daughter. We have assured the family that we will stand by them in every possible way, while demanding the strictest punishment for those responsible.’
Earlier in the day, a BJP delegation led by Agnimitra Paul and Locket Chatterjee also met the victim's family.
Paul claimed the family was satisfied with the administration's handling of the investigation and stressed that those accused of crimes against women must face the harshest punishment.
Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, along with rebel TMC leaders Chandrima Bhattacharya and Seuli Saha, also visited the bereaved family and demanded capital punishment for the accused.
Several senior TMC leaders, including Biman Banerjee, Dola Sen and Pratima Mondal, had met the family a day earlier.
The 12-year-old girl had gone missing on July 4. Her body was recovered inside a sack in Baruipur's Surjyapur Haat area on Sunday.
Investigators later accessed CCTV footage that allegedly showed the child walking with the accused shortly before she disappeared.
