Bengaluru: Russia’s Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet performed aerial manoeuvres at Aero India 2025, marking a key highlight of the biennial air show at Yelahanka Air Force Station. The onlookers were stunned by the fighter jet's maneuverability, with some suggesting that India should acquire such a fighter.

The event, one of Asia’s largest aerospace exhibitions, began Monday with a display of advanced military aircraft, including India’s Tejas, Rafale, and Jaguar fighters. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh led the first sortie, flying in a Tejas combat jet developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The air show also featured a performance by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), which used BAE Systems Hawk Mk 132 aircraft to create a tri-color smoke display and a heart pierced by an arrow. Other notable formations included the Navy’s Varun formation, the Jaguar aircraft’s Arrow formation, and the Trishul formation by three Sukhoi jets.

A special highlight of the event was the participation of both the Russian Su-57 and the U.S. F-35 Lightning II. According to a government statement, this is the first time in history that the two advanced fifth-generation fighter jets are appearing together at Aero India. The F-35 is set for a static display during the event.

HAL’s Light Utility Helicopters also impressed visitors with their agility, showcasing their utility in high-altitude operations. The air show, which runs for five days, is expected to attract global aerospace firms and defense experts.
