A political slugfest over a stray puppy escalated dramatically on Wednesday when Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, asked about a possible privilege motion against her, responded not with words — but by barking.

With a poker face, she looked at reporters and let out a deadpan “Bhow, bhow… aur kya bolun?” instantly sending the clip viral and adding fresh fuel to an already bizarre controversy.

The incident comes two days after Chowdhury carried a rescued puppy into the new Parliament building on the opening day of the Winter Session, triggering objections from multiple MPs who argued that animals are not permitted inside.

Chowdhury maintained she had found the puppy moments after a road mishap near Vijay Chowk and brought it along “fearing for its safety.” ‘Real issues ignored, but my dog has rattled everyone’.
Doubling down, she lashed out at the outrage:

“People are dying because of pollution and no one is worried. BLOs are committing suicide, labour laws are being forced on us, the Sanchar Saathi app is being pushed — but Renuka Chowdhury’s dog is the issue.”

She insisted no rule explicitly prohibits MPs from bringing an animal inside the House and vowed a “munhtod (befitting) reply” if a privilege motion is indeed moved.

What also reignited tempers was her earlier quip, aimed at the BJP: “The real dogs are sitting in Parliament.”

BJP hits back: ‘Serial offender, insults Parliament’

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla tore into her remarks, calling her a “serial offender” and accusing her of repeatedly insulting Parliament and its members.

He said Chowdhury’s “bow-wow answers” proved his point, adding, “Maybe this language is spoken within Congress amongst ‘pidis’.” He also accused her of insulting “Sansad, Sanvidhan, Sena and Sanatan,” and said Rahul Gandhi was defending her instead of condemning the remarks.

Rahul Gandhi: ‘Why blame the dog?’

Weighing in, Rahul Gandhi said the attention on the puppy was absurd. “Dog is the main topic today… What has the poor dog done?” he asked, pointing out that pets were ironically barred from Parliament while “other creatures” were allowed inside — a pointed barb widely interpreted as aimed at the Treasury benches.

BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari blasted Gandhi for “comparing his own Congressmen and Opposition leaders to dogs,” accusing him of insulting the “temple of democracy.”

A puppy that sparked a Parliament-sized row

What started as an act of animal rescue has now spiralled into an unusual political flashpoint featuring barks, barbs, privilege threats, and partisan potshots — turning a stray puppy into the most unexpected protagonist of the Winter Session.
