Remona Pereira, a 23-year-old Bharatanatyam dancer from Mangaluru, Karnataka, has reportedly created a new world record by dancing continuously for 170 hours over a span of seven days.

According to reports, the record attempt took place at the Shri Rajarajeshwari Temple Hall in Mangaluru from July 21 to July 28, 2025. Remona performed classical Bharatanatyam routines throughout the period, following the format and style of the traditional Indian dance. The performance was monitored and recorded for assessment by officials from the Golden Book of World Records.

Under the guidelines of the record body, short rest breaks were permitted at intervals. The attempt drew a crowd of cultural enthusiasts, well-wishers, and local dignitaries who witnessed parts of the marathon.

Remona, a Bachelor of Arts student and trained classical dancer, said the attempt was her way of promoting Indian classical art among younger generations. She also dedicated her effort to her guru and her family for their support.

Following the event, representatives from the Golden Book of World Records issued a provisional certificate acknowledging the duration. Final confirmation of the record will be issued after a detailed review of the footage and logbooks.

Videos of Remona’s marathon performance have gone viral on social media. Many viewers expressed amazement, with comments like: “99 missed calls from Narayan Murthy!”,  “How is it even possible?”, “She had breaks in between, no?”and  “Kudos! My brain shuts off after 24 hours doing anything.”
