Kollam: Ten riders balancing in a single formation on just two moving motorcycles rode through the world's longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet, attempting to set a new world record.

The team successfully covered the 9.02-km stretch from the south portal to the north portal of the Atal Tunnel. Among the riders were two Malayali soldiers—Naiks Arun and Ajimsha of the Indian Army's Corps of Signals.

Ajimsha is son of Najimuddeen and Saleena of Mamood Thottumkara, while Arun is son of V Sunil and Mini of Thiruvathira Bhavan, Elamkulam, Kalluvathukkal.

The duo had earlier been part of another world-record feat marking the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War, when a team of 31 riders formed a human pyramid across seven motorcycles and rode continuously for five kilometres.

The current team is undertaking the expedition as part of the Indian Army Corps of Signals Motorcycle Expedition from Leh to Kargil. The mission was flagged off from Delhi on June 18 by Lieutenant General Vivek Dogra, Senior Officer-in-Chief of the Corps of Signals.

The team successfully crossed the Atal Tunnel on Tuesday. This marks the 37th world record attempt by the Army's Dare Devils motorcycle display team. Documentation for official recognition of the world record is currently being processed.
