What began as a peaceful march demanding jobs soon turned into scenes of panic and chaos in the heart of Patna after Bihar Police resorted to lathi-charge on Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 aspirants protesting over delays in the much-awaited BPSC notification.

Hundreds of teacher aspirants had gathered on Friday, alleging that the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) failed to release the TRE 4.0 notification despite assurances that it would be issued in April.

The candidates were marching from Patna College towards Dak Bungalow Chowraha when the police stopped them near the Gandhi Maidan area.

Visuals from the protest showed students running in fear as police personnel wielded batons to disperse the swelling crowd.

Several protesters claimed they were only demanding clarity on recruitment timelines and accused the administration of “playing with the future of unemployed youth”.

“We prepared for months, believing the notification would come in April. Instead of giving us answers, they hit us with lathis,” one aspirant alleged during the protest.

The protest intensified after demonstrators attempted to cross barricades placed by the police. According to SP (Central) Disha, “Mild force was used to disperse protestors as they were trying to break the barricade.”

The Bihar TRE 4.0 recruitment drive is expected to fill more than 46,000 teaching posts across the state, making it one of the biggest employment opportunities for aspirants.

Protesters alleged that repeated delays and a lack of official communication had triggered anger among thousands of candidates waiting for the notification.

As political reactions begin pouring in, the incident has once again sparked questions over job recruitment delays in Bihar and the growing frustration among unemployed youth preparing for competitive examinations.
