New Delhi: Nations across the world on Monday evening condemned the deadly blast near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, extending condolences and solidarity with India as investigations continue into the high-intensity explosion that killed at least eight people and injured several others.

European Union Ambassador to India Herve Delphin expressed deep condolences, saying the EU stood “by the Indian people in this moment of shock and grief.”

“Our deepest condolences to the victims of the Delhi blast. While investigations by Indian authorities proceed, our first thoughts are with families who lost loved ones and those injured,” he posted on X.

French Ambassador Thierry Mathou echoed the sentiment, writing, “On behalf of the French people and government, I extend our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones in the Red Fort blast.”

Condolences also came from the Egyptian Embassy, which conveyed “sincere sympathy to the families of those affected,” and wished the injured a swift recovery.

The United States joined in condemning the attack, with the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs posting: “Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. Our sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones.” The US Embassy in Delhi also issued a security alert, advising citizens to avoid the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk areas and remain vigilant.

Regional neighbours, too, expressed solidarity. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu said, “The Maldives stands in solidarity with the people and Government of India in this difficult time.” Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah said Dhaka “stands by India at this distressful hour,” mourning the loss of Indian lives.

The Embassy of Iran extended “sincere condolences to the Government and people of India,” while envoys from Japan, Argentina, and the United Kingdom also expressed sorrow. Japanese Ambassador Ono Keiichi said he was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives,” and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron shared updated travel advisories, offering “thoughts to all those affected.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed grief, with Jaishankar noting, “Heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Delhi Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act as investigations continue into what officials described as a “high-intensity car explosion.”
