President Droupadi Murmu met internally displaced families in Imphal and assured them that the Government is committed to rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods and ensuring long-term peace in Manipur.

Imphal: President Droupadi Murmu met internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur’s capital on Thursday, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to helping families uprooted by the state’s prolonged ethnic conflict. During the interaction, she assured the displaced that the government was working to rebuild their homes, secure livelihoods and support their children’s future as they navigate ongoing challenges.
According to officials, the President emphasised that the Union government remains focused on ensuring long-term stability, peace and prosperity in Manipur, which has witnessed large-scale displacement and over 260 deaths since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023.
President reassures IDPs of continued support
Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement that the President met “a few Internally Displaced Persons in Imphal” and conveyed that “the Government stands with them at all times to address their needs.”
The statement added that she “affirmed that the Government is working to secure their homes, livelihoods, and the future of their children,” while also assuring them that steps were being taken “to facilitate their progress towards an environment of peace and sustained prosperity.”
She further urged the displaced families to strengthen “harmony” as the state strives to move towards recovery.
Murmu’s visit marks her first trip to Manipur since assuming office, at a time when thousands remain in relief camps under President’s Rule.
Tributes on Nupi Lal day and visit to Senapati
On Friday, Murmu paid floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal to mark the 86th Nupi Lal Day, which commemorates two historic women-led uprisings against British rule.
“On the ocassion of 86th Nupi Lal Day, President Murmu offered floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, paying heartfelt homage to the brave mothers of Manipur whose courage continues to inspire generations,” an official said.
The President also visited the Shree Govindaji temple before heading to Senapati district, where she is scheduled to meet members of the Maram Naga community and inaugurate several projects. (ANI, PTI)
