Three people, including a woman, were killed and at least seven houses were burnt after armed assailants attacked a village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, prompting condemnation from the government and Kuki organisations.

Fresh violence erupted in Manipur on Friday after armed assailants attacked a village in Kangpokpi district, killing three people, including a woman, and torching several homes in a pre-dawn assault that has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in the state.
The attack took place around 4 am at Loibol Khullen village in the Saitu-Gamphazol subdivision of Kangpokpi district, according to officials.
The assailants allegedly opened fire, triggering an exchange between rival groups that lasted several minutes and forced frightened villagers to flee into nearby forests for safety.
Three people lost their lives in the violence. The victims were identified as Letkhongam Haokip, Tinmary Haokip and Jangminlal Haokip.
At least seven houses were also reduced to ashes in the attack, leaving several families displaced.
The latest incident adds to a series of violent episodes that have continued to trouble Manipur despite efforts by authorities to restore normalcy and maintain peace in vulnerable areas.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen strongly condemned the attack, describing the killings and destruction of homes as a "tragic and unacceptable act".
"The killing of three innocent persons and the burning of homes by unknown armed miscreants is a tragic and unacceptable act. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those who have been affected," she said in a statement.
Assuring action against those responsible, Kipgen said the government was treating the incident with utmost seriousness and would ensure that the perpetrators were dealt with according to law.
She also appealed to residents to remain calm and not fall prey to attempts aimed at creating fear and division.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body representing Kuki tribes in the state, also condemned the attack and called for a comprehensive investigation.
The organisation described the killings as a barbaric act against unarmed civilians and said the destruction of homes and livelihoods amounted to a serious violation of human dignity and fundamental rights.
Security forces have stepped up vigilance in the area, while an investigation is underway to identify the attackers and determine the circumstances that led to the violence.
