New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised Union ministers to become more active on Instagram and use formats such as Reels and interactive posts to connect with younger audiences, sources said.
During a Cabinet meeting in New Delhi, the Prime Minister reportedly asked ministers how many of them were actively using Instagram. He highlighted the platform’s popularity among young people and suggested that ministers should move beyond simply sharing official updates.

According to sources, ministers were encouraged to create more engaging content and directly interact with users through digital platforms.
Social media becomes key space amid CJP protest
The push for greater digital outreach comes at a time when the CJP-led protests over alleged examination irregularities have gained significant attention on social media platforms.
The youth-led movement has used platforms such as Instagram to share protest updates, videos and messages, making digital spaces an important part of the ongoing debate around the NEET paper leak controversy and student demands.
The online visibility of the protests has highlighted how social media has become a major tool for youth mobilisation and political communication.
The Cabinet meeting also approved amendments aimed at strengthening laws against examination paper leaks.
The proposed changes to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, include stricter punishments for individuals involved in paper leaks. Organised groups involved in examination fraud could face longer prison terms and higher penalties.
The proposed measures cover major competitive examinations, including UPSC, SSC, NEET, JEE and CUET.
The CJP has continued demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities and accountability in the testing system.
Opposition parties have also criticised the government’s handling of the issue, while the Centre has maintained that action is being taken against those involved and has backed the Education Minister.
Digital politics and youth engagement
The focus on Instagram reflects the growing importance of social media in political communication, especially among younger users.
While political leaders increasingly use platforms like Instagram, YouTube and other digital channels to reach voters, youth movements have also used the same platforms to organise, share information and amplify their concerns.
