PM Modi’s address comes a day after Opposition parties stalled the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8:30 pm on Saturday, in what is being seen as a significant moment following a major political development in Parliament.
While there is no official clarity yet on the subject of his speech, the timing has drawn attention as it comes just a day after the BJP-led government suffered a setback in the Lok Sabha.
The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, linked to the implementation of the Women’s Reservation policy, failed to secure passage in the Lower House on Friday.
The proposed legislation sought to introduce 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies by 2029, while also paving the way for an expansion of the Lok Sabha to 816 seats through a future delimitation exercise.
The bill required a two-thirds majority to pass, given its constitutional nature. However, despite prolonged debate and high political stakes, it fell short of the required numbers.
In the voting that followed, 298 members supported the bill, while 230 opposed it, resulting in its defeat. A total of 528 members were present and voting.
The proceedings were marked by intense exchanges between the treasury benches and Opposition parties, with disagreements over the timing, framework, and implementation of the reservation policy.
Opposition leaders argued for greater clarity and wider consultations, while the government maintained that the bill was a landmark step toward enhancing women’s political representation.
The outcome marks a rare legislative loss for the Centre on a key reform it had been strongly advocating. Despite the setback, the ruling alliance has indicated that its push for women’s empowerment and political inclusion will continue.
Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming address is expected to be closely watched for signals on how the government plans to navigate the issue going forward.
His last address to the nation was on September 21, when he spoke about GST reforms.
