Media reports had claimed that Udaipur Files producer Amit Jani met with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a closed-door meeting. A fact check by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has revealed this to be fake news.

New Delhi: The film Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder has been at the centre of controversy since the Delhi High Court imposed a stay on its release on July 11. It is based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, who was brutally killed in broad daylight by two men in what was widely condemned as a hate crime.
On Tuesday, some media reports claimed that Udaipur Files producer Amit Jani met Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a closed-door meeting. A fact check by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has revealed this to be fake news.

No such meeting occured
PIB posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Union Minister has not held any such meeting.
Previous reports claimed that amid the ongoing controversy over the film’s release, the film’s producer Amit Jani met Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 4 to discuss the future of the film.
Reports also stated that the meeting with the I&B Minister was held behind closed doors and that the discussions were based on Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. Jani allegedly told the media that the minister shared the government’s concerns, and that the makers have submitted their response.
Jani also allegedly said that this was his second meeting with the minister regarding the film’s release. “"We came before when Mohd. Javed and Maulana Arshad Madani filed their petitions and presented their cases, and now we met again. We hope that the government can make a positive decision and we can release the film” he had said, as per previous reports.
