Bengaluru: A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly uploading secretly recorded videos of women to Instagram, falsely framing them as part of "Bengaluru Night Life."

The accused, identified as Dilavar Hussain MD, a resident of Byrathi in Kothanur and originally from Manipur, was taken into custody after police found his Instagram account, operated under the handle ‘Dilbar Jaani-67’, hosting objectionable content. Hussain works as a delivery agent for a major food delivery platform, officials said.

Police took suo motu action after spotting obscene posts

The case was taken up by the Ashok Nagar Police, who registered a suo motu complaint after detecting the account during routine online surveillance. The videos, which primarily featured unconsented footage of women walking in public spaces, were described as obscene by investigators.

Police said the videos, most of which were filmed from behind, showed women walking in public spaces including MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Koramangala and Indiranagar. Sub-Inspector Nabi Saab of Ashok Nagar Police Station filed the complaint.

Police say Hussain uploaded the clips with the intent of gaining followers and boosting engagement on his account.

Hussain has been charged under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the publication or transmission of obscene content in electronic form. So far, he has admitted to uploading over 14 such videos in the past three months.

Authorities have requested Instagram to take down the offending account and are continuing their investigation. As of now, Hussain has not been presented before the court.

Second similar case in Bengaluru this month

This arrest follows a similar incident earlier this month. On July 10, Bengaluru police arrested Gurudeep Singh (26) after a woman publicly raised concerns about another Instagram page that posted covert videos of women taken without consent. Those videos, too, were recorded in busy areas like Church Street and Koramangala, and misleadingly portrayed as part of the city's nightlife and "street life" scenes.

Police officials have reiterated their commitment to protecting women's privacy in public spaces and warned that further monitoring of social media platforms will continue to detect and act against such violations.
