New Delhi: A surveillance video has emerged showing the exact instant a powerful explosion ripped through a vehicle near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi. The clip, recorded by a camera at the Red Fort crossing, captured heavy traffic before a sudden fireball engulfed the scene.

The footage depicts what appears to be a quiet flow of traffic when the explosion occurs at around 6:50 pm on Monday. The blast “appeared like a red balloon bursting, followed by chaos and panic as people run for cover,” according to reports.

Who was behind the wheel?

Investigators believe the car was driven by Dr Umar Nabi, an assistant professor at Al‑Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. The vehicle is “believed to have been driven by Dr Umar Nabi”.

What has the police confirmed?

The CCTV recording also matched the time of the explosion that investigators had previously established, verifying their timeline of the attack.
