New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday examined the ongoing NEET paper leak case and sought details on whether the medical entrance examination could be conducted entirely through a computer-based system, as the Centre assured the court that extensive reforms are being implemented to strengthen the examination process.

Appearing for the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the bench that the government would place the complete examination mechanism, from the printing of question papers to their distribution, before the court. He said a detailed affidavit would also explain the measures being introduced to improve examination security.

The court specifically sought information on the feasibility of conducting NEET as a fully computer-based examination. It also asked the government to submit details on data protection measures, cybersecurity safeguards and other technological mechanisms intended to prevent future breaches.

According to the Centre, the recommendations of the Radhakrishnan Committee, constituted to strengthen the examination system following concerns over the integrity of competitive exams, are already being implemented.

The forthcoming affidavit will include details on these reforms as well as proposed changes to digital examination infrastructure and security protocols.

The proceedings come as authorities continue efforts to restore confidence in one of India's largest entrance examinations, taken annually by lakhs of candidates seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses.

The Supreme Court has now listed the matter for further hearing on August 3, when it is expected to examine the Centre's detailed submissions on examination reforms, cybersecurity measures and the possible transition towards computer-based testing.
