'Nearly one out of every two electors.' That single statistic has placed Bengaluru at the centre of Karnataka's ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the city recording the highest concentration of voters currently classified under the ASDDO or uncollected category.

Fresh figures released by the Chief Electoral Officer reveal that Bengaluru's urban regions have emerged as the state's biggest area of concern during the house-to-house verification exercise. Across the three BBMP zones alone, more than 48.9 lakh electors have been flagged, far exceeding Karnataka's overall state average.

In Bangalore Urban district, which has 40.21 lakh registered electors, only 55.39 per cent of enumeration forms have so far been digitised.

The remaining 44.61 per cent, accounting for 17.93 lakh voters, have been placed under the ASDDO or uncollected category pending further verification.

The situation is even more pronounced within the BBMP limits. BBMP South has recorded the highest proportion of flagged electors anywhere in Karnataka, with 51.18 per cent or 10.97 lakh voters falling under the category. BBMP Central follows with 47.85 per cent or 9.04 lakh electors, while BBMP North has 46.95 per cent, translating to 10.95 lakh voters.

Election authorities, however, stressed that inclusion in the ASDDO category should not be interpreted as removal from the electoral rolls.

The classification covers voters who are marked as Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead or Others during the ongoing field verification, and each case remains open for correction.

Officials said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have been authorised to reverse any incorrect ASDDO tagging until August 8, when the enumeration and digitisation exercise concludes.

Across Karnataka, the SIR exercise covers 5.54 crore electors. According to the Election Commission, enumeration forms have been printed and distributed for the entire electorate, while 99.99 per cent of records have already been digitised or categorised. At present, 19.93 per cent of the state's voters, around 1.1 crore people, fall under the ASDDO or uncollected category.

Among those flagged statewide, permanently shifted voters form the largest group at 66.43 lakh, followed by 16.32 lakh marked as deceased, 16.12 lakh listed as absent or untraceable, 6.93 lakh already enrolled elsewhere, and another 4.67 lakh placed in the 'Others' category.

To support eligible residents seeking enrolment, the Election Commission has supplied 10 lakh copies of Form 6 to Electoral Registration Officers across BBMP and the Greater Bengaluru Area. Between June 16 and August 5, authorities received 12.32 lakh applications under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 for fresh enrolments, corrections and deletions in the electoral rolls.
