Bengaluru: The Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro will add a fifth trainset by mid-October, significantly reducing the waiting time between trains from the current 19 minutes to 15 minutes. This enhancement aims to ease peak-hour congestion and accommodate the growing number of daily commuters on the heavily travelled RV Road to the Bommasandra corridor.

The Yellow Line, officially inaugurated on August 10, 2025, initially operated with three trains running at 25-minute intervals. Over the past month, a fourth train was introduced, bringing the waiting time down to 19 minutes. With the arrival of the fifth six-coach train, manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems, officials expect daily ridership to exceed 90,000 passengers.

Traffic studies by Bengaluru Traffic Police indicate that since the Yellow Line began operations, road congestion during peak hours has dropped significantly, 38 per cent in morning and 37 per cent in evening traffic. The addition of the fifth train is expected to further reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, contributing to lower air pollution levels in the city.

Titagarh Rail Systems has been contracted to supply a total of 15 trainsets for the Yellow Line, with ten more trains expected to be delivered through early 2026. Full operations with all 15 trains are planned by March 2026, targeting headways of 5 to 6 minutes to ensure a smoother and more convenient commuting experience.

The expanded Yellow Line connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road in the north to Bommasandra in the south, passing through key hubs including Electronic City. Upcoming interchanges with the Pink and Blue lines are also expected to enhance connectivity in Bengaluru’s expanding metro network.
