Mumbai: In a deeply tragic incident, a Mumbai-based doctor vanished after reportedly jumping off Atal Setu.

A 32-year-old Mumbai doctor, Dr Omkar Bhagwan Kavitake, has been reported missing after allegedly jumping off the Atal Setu bridge on the night of Tuesday.

The Mumbai doctor, who worked at JJ Hospital, reportedly called his mother shortly before the incident, saying he was coming home for dinner.

A motorist driving on the Atal Setu sea bridge, India’s longest sea bridge connecting South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, noticed someone climb the bridge railing and jump. The witness quickly alerted the police, triggering a coordinated emergency response.

What did the police find?

When police from Ulwa Police Station arrived on the scene, they found a Honda Amaze parked on the Mumbai-bound side of the bridge. Inside were the doctor’s mobile phone and personal belongings. CCTV footage reportedly confirmed that the man was Dr Kavitake, a JJ Hospital doctor and a resident of Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai.

According to Senior Inspector Arjun Rajane, the last phone call made by the missing Mumbai doctor was at 9:11 pm to his mother, where he mentioned he was heading home for dinner. The emergency services received a distress call around 9:45 pm.

As of Tuesday morning, over 12 hours of search operations have not yielded any results. Rescue teams continue to scour the area, while police have launched an investigation. Family members, colleagues, and friends of the doctor are being questioned to uncover potential reasons behind this alleged suicide.

The case has sparked renewed conversation around mental health crisis in India, particularly among young medical professionals under stress. With no suicide note recovered, speculation continues around what might have prompted the Mumbai doctor’s suicide attempt.
