Mumbai: A Malayali family is suspected to be involved in the boat accident near the Gateway of India in Mumbai, where a passenger boat collided with a Navy speedboat. The Malayali couple, who had arrived in Mumbai from Kerala for sightseeing, are reportedly missing following the incident.

In the accident, a six-year-old boy, who was injured, is currently undergoing treatment at JNPT Hospital in Uran, Navi Mumbai. The boy informed the police that he could not find his parents on the boat.

Around 101 people were injured in the accident and have been admitted to various hospitals. The police are investigating whether the Malayali couple is among the injured and receiving treatment. The Malayali community in Mumbai is also helping the police in the search efforts. The condition of the child receiving treatment is reportedly stable.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 4 p.m., when the passenger boat, Neel Kamal, which was traveling from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, collided with a Navy speedboat. There were around 100 passengers aboard the boat. Thirteen people were confirmed dead, while 101 others were rescued.

Footage from just before the accident surfaced, showing the Navy speedboat zigzagging in the sea and suddenly making a U-turn before crashing violently into the passenger boat.

The Navy informed yesterday that the speed boat went out of control and rammed into the passenger boat. The engine of the navy boat had recently been replaced and a new engine had been installed. It has bee reported that the accident happened while conducting inspection of the newly installed engine.The Navy boat had six people on board, including two Navy personnel and four from the engine-supplying company.

However, the exact number of people on the passenger boat remains unclear, and it is still uncertain how many more are yet to be found.
