PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter Iltija claimed they were confined to their home ahead of the July 13 Martyrs' Day observance in Srinagar.

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest ahead of the July 13 Martyrs' Day observance in Srinagar, her daughter and party leader Iltija Mufti claimed on Sunday.
‘We have been placed under house arrest on the eve of Martyrs' Day for reasons best known to JK Police,’ Iltija said in a post on X.
Questioning the administration's claims of normalcy in the Valley, Iltija alleged that the local government was using the police to detain political opponents and accused authorities of acting against dissent.
July 13 is observed as Martyrs' Day in Jammu and Kashmir in memory of the 22 people killed outside Srinagar's Central Jail in 1931.
The Lieutenant Governor-led administration removed the day from the list of gazetted holidays in 2020.
