Thane: A case has been filed against two individuals for allegedly deceiving a man from Thane district in Maharashtra out of ₹4.6 lakh with a promise to secure his son's admission to a medical college, police reported on Monday.

Following a complaint, authorities in Kalyan town registered a first information report (FIR) on Sunday against Bhaisaheb Jadhav and his personal assistant, Jayant Jadhav, under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The incident allegedly took place in 2023.

According to the complaint, the accused claimed they could arrange for the complainant's son to gain admission to a well-known medical college in Ahilya Nagar. They took ₹5 lakh from the man, convincing him that the admission had been confirmed.

However, when the complainant later realised that the admission had not been secured, he requested a refund. The two suspects returned only ₹40,000. The complainant also alleged that the accused threatened to kill him.

An investigation is currently ongoing, but no arrests have been made at this stage, the official added.
