Faridabad:The residence of six-time world boxing champion and Olympic medalist Mary Kom in Sector 46, Faridabad, was burglarised earlier this week while she was away participating in an international half-marathon event in Meghalaya’s Sohra, police confirmed.

The two-story bungalow, known as Ibeneser Inn, was locked for several days while the boxing legend was out of town. The burglary reportedly took place on the intervening night of September 24-25, when unknown miscreants broke in through a glass window on the terrace accessed from an adjacent vacant plot. CCTV footage from the night showed the thieves carrying away valuables, including a television set and other items worth several lakhs.

Neighbours who noticed suspicious activity, including a ladder placed near the house, alerted Mary Kom’s manager, who then informed the police. The burglary came to light after a neighbour reviewed CCTV recordings of the theft on September 27. Despite the house being locked, thieves managed to enter by damaging a window and breaking a door from the first-floor balcony. The footage also showed multiple suspects carrying stolen items wrapped in bedsheets and fleeing on foot and on a scooter.

Mary Kom, originally from Manipur and one of India’s most decorated athletes, said she learned of the incident while at the marathon. “I am scared, nervous and worried as I was supposed to return to Delhi today. The theft happened earlier this week,” she told organisers. She has reported the crime to the police and said the full extent of loss will be known only after her return.

Faridabad police have registered a formal complaint and launched an intensive investigation to identify and arrest those responsible. They are currently analysing CCTV footage and searching for the suspects.
