A team from Koyilandy Fire Station reached the spot and rescued him from the 22-foot-deep well

Kozhikode: A suspected thief who fell into a well during an attempted burglary was rescued in Koyilandy. The incident occurred at the well of Kunjabdulla in Nandi, Koyilandy, where Augustine Birla (26), a native of Assam, fell. Fire and Rescue Services personnel arrived and brought him out.
The incident came to light around 8 am on Friday, when a resident who came to draw water for household needs heard movement inside the well. It was also noticed that the grill covering the well had been removed. The Fire Force was then alerted.
A team from Koyilandy Fire Station reached the spot and rescued him from the 22-foot-deep well. Police suspect that he may have slipped and fallen into the well while attempting to enter the house through a bathroom adjacent to it.
Police are investigating whether he had attempted theft in any nearby houses as well. He has been admitted to Koyilandy Taluk Hospital. The family has not yet filed a complaint.
Police said he will be taken to the station for detailed questioning, and a case registered if a complaint is received. Assistant Station Officer Anilkumar and team members Shiji I., Jineesh Kumar, Nidhi Prasad E.M., Anoop N.P., Nithin Raj E.K., Indrajith I., Balan T.P., Anilkumar P.M., Sudheesh, and Rijesh were part of the rescue operation.
