The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the clear winner in the Maharashtra civic elections, securing a significant majority of seats across the state. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena followed, with the Congress and NCP also making gains.

The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the dominant force in the Maharashtra civic elections on Friday, securing 1,400 seats as results were declared for 2,833 of 2,868 seats across the state.
The Shinde-led Shiv Sena secured 397 seats, followed by the Congress with 324, the NCP with 160, and the Shiv Sena-UBT with 153.
Vidarbha and Eastern Maharashtra
The BJP emerged as the single largest party in Nagpur, Akola, and Amravati, while the Congress led in Chandrapur.
In Nagpur, the BJP retained power for the fourth consecutive term, winning 102 of 151 seats. The Congress won 34, AIMIM six, and the Indian Muslim League four. Shiv Sena (UBT) took two seats, while the NCP, BSP, and Shiv Sena each won one. The BJP had contested 143 seats compared to the Congress, which contested all 151 alone.
In Akola, the BJP won 38 of 80 seats, with the Congress taking 21. In Amravati, the BJP won 25 of 87 seats, followed by the Yuva Swabhiman Party (16), Congress (15), and 11 seats each for AIMIM, NCP, and VBA. In Chandrapur, Congress won 27 of 66 seats, ahead of the BJP’s 23.
Western Maharashtra and Pune
The BJP trounced the opposition in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. In Pune, the BJP bagged 95 of the 135 seats declared, while the NCP won 20 and Congress 15. In Pimpri Chinchwad, the BJP retained power with 84 of 127 seats, while the Ajit Pawar-led NCP won 36.
The party also saw victories in Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, and Satara. In Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, the BJP secured a majority with 39 of 78 seats. In Kolhapur, the alliance clinched the win with the BJP taking 26 seats and Shiv Sena 15, despite a 34-seat performance by the Congress.
Thane and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
In Eknath Shinde’s home turf of Thane, the Shiv Sena won 75 of 131 seats, while the BJP took 28. The alliance also claimed victory in Kalyan-Dombivali with 104 of 122 seats.
In Navi Mumbai, the "Yuti" alliance won a thumping majority, with the BJP taking 65 seats and the Shiv Sena 42 of 111. In Ulhasnagar, the BJP won 37 seats and the Shinde Sena 36 of the 78 available.
Nashik, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra
The BJP comfortably retained the Nashik Municipal Corporation, winning 72 of 122 seats. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the BJP won 57 of 115 seats, while the AIMIM emerged as the second-largest party with 33.
The Congress managed a significant win in Latur, gaining 43 of 70 seats against the BJP’s 22.
In other regions:
- Panvel: BJP won 55 of 78 seats.
- Dhule: BJP won 50 of 74 seats.
- Jalgaon: BJP took 46 and the Sena 22 of 75 seats.
- Jalna: The BJP-Sena alliance won 53 of 65 seats, defeating the Congress, which won nine.

Political reactions and updates
As the counting day arrived, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen also expressed confidence. AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan said the party expected to achieve “great success” in the BMC polls.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed opposition allegations of foul play over the use of marker pens instead of indelible ink. Responding to claims made by Raj Thackeray, Fadnavis said attempts were being made to build a narrative ahead of the results to justify a potential defeat.
Public angst:
A Mumbai resident who arrived at his designated polling booth to vote in the BMC elections expressed frustration after being unable to locate his name on the voter list. He said the booth details he found online did not match the information at the polling station, calling it a clear administrative lapse, and added that he was forced to return without casting his vote.
