New Delhi: The domestic LPG supply in India remains stable, with more than 55 lakh LPG cylinder refills delivered on Saturday, the government said on Sunday, reassuring consumers amid concerns over global supply disruptions.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that an additional 64,000 free trade 5 kg LPG cylinders were sold, with no reports of shortages or dry-outs at LPG distributorships across the country.

Online LPG bookings surge, DAC system strengthened

According to the ministry, online LPG cylinder bookings have risen sharply to 94 per cent, reflecting increased digital adoption among consumers. To curb diversion and ensure transparent delivery, Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based LPG deliveries have been ramped up from 53 per cent in February to 84 per cent currently.

Adequate fuel stocks and high refinery output

The government stated that all refineries in India are operating at high capacity, supported by sufficient crude oil inventories. Stocks of petrol and diesel remain adequate, while domestic LPG production has been increased to meet rising demand.

All petrol pumps and fuel stations are functioning normally across the country, ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability.

Advisory to consumers amid rumours

Authorities have urged consumers to book LPG cylinders online and avoid unnecessary visits to distributorships. Citizens have also been encouraged to use alternative cooking fuels such as piped natural gas (PNG) and induction or electric cooktops, along with practising energy conservation in daily use.

The government clarified that recent panic buying of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders in some states was triggered by rumours, and reiterated that fuel stocks in India are sufficient.

“There is no need to panic. Adequate supplies of LPG, petrol and diesel are available across the country,” officials said.

Measures amid Strait of Hormuz disruption

In view of the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the government said proactive steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted LPG and petroleum product supply in India, despite global geopolitical challenges.

Crackdown on hoarding and black marketing

Enforcement agencies have intensified action against LPG hoarding and black marketing, conducting nearly 2,900 raids across states and Union Territories. Around 1,000 LPG cylinders were seized on Saturday alone.

Officials from public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) also carried out surprise inspections at over 1,200 petrol pumps and LPG distributorships nationwide to ensure smooth supply. So far, more than 480 show-cause notices have been issued to LPG distributors.

Focus on supply stability

The government emphasised that continuous monitoring, increased production, and strict enforcement measures are helping maintain a stable LPG supply, fuel availability, and energy security in India, even amid global uncertainty.
